Welcome To Charlottesville
The hospital is sectioned between the undergraduate campus and the outdoor walking mall we call the “downtown mall.” There’s various apartment complexes, townhouses and home rentals in the area. The rule of thumb is that undergraduates normally live on the west side of town whereas residents generally live to the East and North along Route 29. Most people live no further than 15 minutes away from the hospital. Some people choose to walk or bike to the hospital, other people take the parking pass and drive. There’s no wrong answer.

At the same time plenty of us live in townhouses or single family homes in the Belmont, Fifeville, Barracks, Rugby road areas as well as further up Route 29. Some residents do choose to live outside of the city near the base of Afton Mountain in the Crozet area as you can normally get more space for the money over there.
